How to Structure a Class for Adult Learning
Thyri Nielsdatter

In real life, Thyri is an instructor at the local community college. In this class we will first cover the functional principles of learning, then link that to the principles of teaching, and then use our last 15-20 minutes for you to make your own mini class and teach it to a partner or group.
Percussion Petting Zoo
Mahir bil Tabla

Percussion Petting Zoo, a.k.a. drums and shakers and bells, oh my!!! Mahir will show you what it’s like to play with a multitude of percussion instruments. There will be bells, shakers, tambourines, hand drums, triangle, etc. Participants will explore a few basic rhythms, as well as an opportunity to use every piece of period-esque percussion equipment he owns (yes, he’s serious). In order to use the hand drums, participants CANNOT wear rings, bracelets, watches, etc. Ages 12+ is preferred; minors need to be accompanied by a trusted adult. Unaccompanied minors will be given a cowbell with a hard mallet and told to “go find your parents” along with “have fun, don’t hit anybody or anything with it, and make noise” (yes, he’s serious again).
Recorder 101 or How to Play Your Site Token
Luftwine Byrnsmith

We gave out a lot of recorders. We are not sadists. Recorders and similar blockflutes (with a little instruction and practice) have a wonderful and complex sound that was heard throughout our historical periods. Come learn the basics of playing this recorder as an actual instrument and not have it sound like your kid playing hot-crossed buns for the first time. Class will include sheet music, instructions, resources and hopefully some historic context on the simply constructed, but beautiful instrument.
